Universal Boltforgers' partnership with Sandwell College Central Campus in Spon Lane, West Bromwich, for recruiting and employing apprentices has already proved to be a big success.
Szymon Skurzynski, who joined the scheme in September 2013, has recently completed his NVQ Level 2 apprenticeship and is now a full-time qualified employee at UBF.
The partnership scheme is funded via the National Apprenticeship Service, part of the Skills Funding Agency, the UK government agency that coordinates apprenticeships in England, enabling young people to enter the skilled trades.
“Apprenticeships ensure that our workforce has the practical skills and qualifications we need both now and in the future,” said Jason Launchbury, UBF’s Works Manager who is mentor to Szymon.
“The mix of on- and off-the-job learning for Szymon ensures that he learns the skills that work best for UBF. We are delighted with his progress and see our partnership with the College as a demonstration of our commitment to staff development.”
The College Apprenticeship is a work-based training programme, designed by the Sector Skills Councils around the needs of the employer, which lead to nationally recognised qualifications.
